Has Friendly’s changed their french fry preparation? I called their headquarters a few yrs back after reading that their fries were GF on thier own website, only to find out that they are NOT. In all of their restaurants the fries are cooked in the same frier as the chicken tenders and onion rings, contaminating the oil with gluten. For someone with celiac, this is dangerous to lead them to believe they are eating gluten free when they are not. Have you verified that their fries are gluten free? Thank you
Terri
It’s 2021 and I’m on the toilet to tell you they are not gf. In fact when we were in there one girl said they have no gf options ( it’s nice to find honesty). Our waitress said she didn’t know and there was no one there to ask at the time. I took a chance and had cheese fries which is a double no probably. I just won’t be eating in there again. Maybe take my kids again but they don’t like that type of food anyway.

This is precisely why someone who is not gluten free (Adam Bryan, this site’s author) has no business making an informational web site for the gf community. Of course Friendly’s fries are not gf, but a guy who is not gf himself (a guy who in fact seems to think celiac disease is called Celiacs – doesn’t have an s, sorry) is not going to know that. He’s just found an audience to exploit (us). He’s also got products to sell. Not only that, but all previous comments, including those pointing out dangerous mistakes in his information, were deleted when he switched to the new disqus commenting forum. So, yes, his information is wrong in many cases, and dangerous, especially to the newly diagnosed. I am sure he will delete my comment as he goes about further exploiting a community he knows nothing about.

I’d be really surprised if their Teryaki tips were GF as I’d bet money the sauce is made with regular soy sauce and not tamari, or gf soy sauce. I haven’t verified this, but if you are considering going to friendly’s I’d call the corporate department first (as I’m sure the cooks don’t know what’s in the giant packs of sauce they use in the kitchen at a monster chain like this).

My server just told me not to me not to trust any ice cream here to be GF. I definitely do not want to be sick all night! Thank you server!
Gail
Not trusting the ice cream probably has more to do with the storage of the ice cream scooters than the actual ice cream itself. All the scooters are stored in communal water baths. Therefore, if server A has scooped Cookies and Cream and tosses the scooper in with all the other scoopers , they are all contaminated. Which, in turn, will contaminate the rest of the ice cream. Horrible cycle!
Dawn
They are allergy trained. They have to sanitize a scoop, change gloves, and clear the whole space. I am a chef trained as well and I know this because I have ran icecream shops and my daughter works at Friendly’s. Ask a manager if you are going to be that paranoid as the state requires foodsafe, choke, and allergy certification!
Elizabeth
Our server was very kind! Even though they use the same scoops for all ice cream, meaning that the scoops are contaminated, she offered to have the manager “hand scoop” with a glove to ensure it is not contaminated.

Just went to a friendly a. None of what is on this site is on the menu.
