Denise
I love their nuggets. My son says the grilled nuggets taste better than the breaded ones.
Adam Bryan
I agree Denise! I feel like there’s just more flavor in the grilled nuggets.
amanda
So is the waffle fries gluten free? I’m new on this gluten stuff so it is hars for me to know what I can and can’t eat
Rachel
Their waffle fries are gluten free, they are fried in fryers separate from foods containing gluten.
Carrie
I just asked a manager at CFA and they said the waffle fries aren’t gluten free. Nor are some other things on this list. CFA will give you a printout of ingredients for items in question and there are lots of hidden names for gluten so be careful and ask around 🙂
Susan
Nice, they told me they fried the fries in different oil and that they were all gluten free. I went there yesterday (Spanish Fork Utah) today, sick again. It is no small thing to give up food to try to feel good, for me the gluten causes partial seizures. At least tell me the truth when I as if they are fried in the same oil.
Susan
I also got sick at a CFA in Aliso Viejo Ca……and I get migraines and muscle pain besides the belly aches…..will not go back
Maci
It just depends on the location. Most of them have dedicated fryers. All of my local ones do, and even have “gluten free” on the menu beside the waffle fries.
Dee
From what I remember they don’t fry their fries in a dedicated fryer so they are a cross contamination risk with the chicken breading.
Adam Bryan
Hey Dee, I used to work at Chick Fil A last year and they use separate fryers for their waffle fries. These are also cooked in canola oil as opposed to the traditional peanut oil.
Liz Hernandez
That is a huge issue for us – Fries cooked in the same oil as breaded chicken etc. is really no different – can others confirm this is true for the fries?
Blythe Enke
I and several family members work for Chick-fil-a; the breaded chicken is all cooked in pressure-cooker type fryers, whereas the fries are in a very much separate dip-fry fryer.
Regina
I was told it varies by location as to how they are set up if they have a fryer dedicated to not cross contaminate the fries. I was told you need to ask how each location is set up to find out if you will be “safe” to eat the fries or not.
Michelle
I also worked at CFA for years and have friends and family at the home office and who are Operators at various locations-the chicken has to be pressure cooked and has a completely separate fryer than the fryer used for the waffle fries. The waffle fries just have your standard dip fryer that most fast food places use for fries. This is the same at every location so you don’t have to worry about cross contamination.
Helen
?❤️??
Tara
What about the cheese sauce you can get to dip your fries? Is it gluten free? Thanks!
Adam Bryan
I honestly don’t remember off the top of my head. I’ll be sure to ask and get back to you asap Tara.
Adam Bryan
Hey Tara, I just checked with CFA and the cheese sauce contains wheat flour in it
Jessie
I have also asked about the fries to make sure (Tampa, FL) and they said that they make the fries in a separate fryer as well. I second it.
Natalie
The honey sesame dressing has soy sauce in it that contains wheat.
Callie
Honey sesame dressing containa soy sauce – aka wheat! Just looked at the ingredients list.
Adam Bryan
You’re right Callie, I’m going to have to go and change it. Thanks for the info!
Tracey Ventimiglia
Thanks for info!
Michelle @ My Gluten-free Kitchen
Just this year we had Chick-fil-A come to our town and the owner gave me a tour of the kitchen to show me the how the food is all prepared so I could understand the safe options. The french fries are prepared in their own dedicated fryers, with a dedicated employee that just does that. I questioned whether an employee might do some breaded chicken in the same fryer, but he showed me how the set-up is and if someone wanted to do that, they’d be grabbing the breaded chicken, walking all the way past the fryers that are for frying the chicken, over to where the waffle fry fryers are in order to do that, not to mention the guy in charge of fries wouldn’t let him do it!
Needless to say, I felt very comfortable after touring the kitchen, knowing it is a place that is safe for me as a celiac.
I always order the grilled chicken (nothing with gluten is placed on this grill), and the fries. I do always ask them to push the buttons to let them know I have a gluten allergy and explicitly say for them to change gloves. I have not had a problem any of the times I’ve eaten there, and I am one of those that gets very sick with just a crumb. In fact, we just ate lunch there today. It is so nice to have a quick and easy safe place to eat as a celiac.
I would encourage you to contact the management at your local restaurant to inquire about their procedures so you are sure. Mine was great about responding when I PM’d them through their individual restaurant’s facebook page.
Adam Bryan
I couldn’t agree more Michelle. Thanks for the info!
Melanie
You definitely need to ask. I was in a Chick Fil A in Fairfax, VA & the manager said they didn’t do the chicken in the same fryer, but they did fry the hash browns in the same fryer in the mornings. And the hash browns are not gluten free. No fries for us.
John
The hash browns ARE gluten free. So yes, their fries are gluten free and are not cross contaminated. I’ve eaten chick-fil-a fries many many times without getting sick.
Ashley
I’ve been eating at Chick-fil-A for many years now and for the last 2 1/2 years I have been gluten-free. I started eating the grilled chicken nuggets and had no issues. I’ve enjoyed them often. However, recently one of the staff at Chick-fil-A suggested That I try the honey roasted barbecue sauce in the packets. It is absolutely delicious and definitely NOT gluten-free. The two times I have eaten that sauce I have gotten sick shortly after my lunch. Beware.
Sharon
I’ve eaten the honey roasted barbecue sauce for years and never had a problem. Maybe it has something else that bothers you.
Patrick
I’ve also had problems with the honey roasted barbecue sauce. But I think the problem is the mustard seed as I have come to realize causes me problems.
Becky
Can you edit the post to include that the Cobb salad must be ordered with grilled chicken and the tomato pepper crispy things that come with it contain wheat?
Adam Bryan
I went ahead and included your suggestion Becky. Thanks for the tip!
Cindy
The nutritionist at my physician’s office told me that the chicken salad was gluten free and that I could order it by itself (without bread). Can you confirm?
Adam Bryan
I can confirm that it is as long as you order it with chargrilled chicken only. Hope this helps Cindy
JT
Chick-fil-a’s chicken salad is made from both grilled and fried (de-breaded) chicken. So it won’t have bread in it; However, keep in mind that some of it was fried. So if you’re allergic to the point that you can’t have anything that has contacted gluten, I’d try a little at first and see how it goes or maybe just stay on the safe side.
Melissa
My husband owns a Chick-fil-A, and I have worked there as well. I am also gluten free. The Chicken salad is not GF. They use both the fried chicken and the grilled chicken in the chicken salad. The fried chicken has the breading removed after cooking. The fries are cooked in a different fryer and different type of oil than the chicken. Hope that helps.
Evie
Hey guys, I see the milkshakes are not listed. Are these not gluten free?
patti
So is the honey roasted barbecue sauce gluten free or not? Saw someone post that it wasn’t, can you confirm ?
Adam Bryan
The honey roasted BBQ is gluten free Patti. Here’s their ingredient list:
http://www.chick-fil-a.com/media/pdf/glutenfreeitemslist.pdf
Hopefully this helps!
tbird
what about the bread used for sandwichs, buns.
Adam Bryan
Unfortunately they are not gluten free (both white and wheat). Their wraps also contain gluten. You can always try “protein style” which is just a grilled Chick Fil A sandwich wrapped in lettuce. It’s actually really good.
Ali
I work at CFA there are so many options!
Adam Bryan
I used to work there too and I couldn’t agree more Ali!
Kay
Often when an employee falsely states that something is gluten free is because they are looking for the specific words ” gluten” or ” wheat”. They, unless gluten free themselves, will not recognize the other ingredients that may be derived from wheat. In this gluten free menu, 2 ingredients in particular stand out to me: flavorings, and the distilled vinegar. To be safe you must always ask to see the ingredient lists yourself.
Adam Bryan
I couldn’t agree more Kay
Elizabeth
Out nutritionist told us the use MSG. Can anyone confirm or deny?
Debbie
Yes they do unfortunately. Not necessary either. Wish they would remove all forms of MSG. Nothing healthy contains MSG.
stacy
I see you have the yogurt posted as GF. I was told recently by management that the yogurt has wheat flour in it.
israel
I really don’t see how the fries could be gluten free when they are fried in the same oil as the hash browns which are not gluten free.
Kristin
Israel, the hash browns are gluten free…does anyone know if the new “CHARGRILLED” nuggets are gluten free?
Adam Bryan
Hi Krisitin, they are!
crystal
No the new marinade for the grilled chicken uses soy sauce – NOT gf!
But you can request the original grilled chicken (from the kitchen’s pink bag) and no marinade. It will take 10 extra minutes because they clean the grill.
veronica
Are the milkshakes really gluten free? Normally milkshakes have malt in them and malt is not gluten free.
Kris
Chick-fil-a has new grilled nuggets – does anyone know if the new marinade that’s on it is GF?
Nicol Hudson

Jenny
I don’t know if the new grilled chicken is gluten free, but I do know it is AWFUL. I for one don’t like mushy chicken. Guess I will have to find a new place to eat 🙁
anonymous
I may never eat at Georhia’s beloved CFA again after becoming extremely ill despite my specific requests and information given. The new marinade is NOT GF, but this was addressed in my conversation with the mngmnt and should have not presented itself a problem. However, CFA seems to have difficulty in offering regular grilled chicken without the marinade.
I believe they added spices despite my specifications. Tbh, since this horrible experience 15 days ago, I’ve remained sick and seem to have entered a new “phase” of the diagnosis….
Think I may be done with CFA for good.
fk
I work at chick-fil-a. the marinade is not optional. it comes that way when delivered. there is no taking it off therefore the grilled meat has no choice but to be with gluten.

Thank you for your website and kind assistance to the GF community, Adam Bryan. =)

Btw, the manager with whom I spoke has a sibling with celiac but, sadly, knows little about the diagnosis.
The customer service tends to be superb compared to most fast food restaurants, but this one visit messed me up badly.
David
I asked them in detail about their Blue Cheese Crumbles on their salad since I was surprised they considered it gluten free. I was impressed that they took the time to give me a very detailed response:
We have tested the gluten content of our Blue and Gorgonzola cheeses and have found them to be “gluten-free”. It is true that the blue mold cultures are grown on bread that contains gluten. The mold incubation process and subsequent purification of the culture reduces the amount of gluten in the cheese culture to .149 g of gluten per 1 liter of media. In the cheese making process, a small amount of this culture (approximately 100 mg per 200 liters of milk) is used per vat, so further dilution occurs.
This is a subject we take very seriously because of the possibility of consumers who have Celiac Disease consuming our products. We have not found any gluten in our products and there is no reason for these individuals not to consume our cheese. Of course, it is up to each individual to monitor their own diet and consider other factors that could affect their gluten intake that are beyond our control.

I just ate the new Grilled Chicken Nuggets and waffle fries with sweet tea. Within an hour my stomach was churning and I was in the bathroom in considerable pain. I will check with them first from now on to make sure the fries aren’t fried in the same oil as the nuggets. And I will remember to take some enzymes (I use Carbo-G) to take along with me to take anyway, just to be on the safe side.
Mary Ann
I ate at a different Chik-fil-a in a different city tonight. I ordered the sweet tea and waffle fries again but this time I got the grilled chicken breast like I used to. No problems with my stomach at all.
Terra
I like CFA and have found GF foods to eat. Unfortunately ALL of their chicken has MSG, which I am also sensitive too. Is there a place to look for MSG/GF foods?
Debbie
I woulf be interested in learning of any options also since I have celiac’s and MSG intolerance.
Terry
I was looking at the list of sauces and the polynesian sauce is listed as GF but it has tomato paste. I thought a lot of tomato pastes were not GF. Any ideas if what they use is?
Courtney
The nuggets are gluten free, however the strips are NOT. Go directly to the site and see the list of allergens https://www.chick-fil-a.com/Media/PDF/AllergenReference.pdf
RN
Just because the item on the allergens list says Wheat free does not mean that the item will be GF when it arrives to you. One should always ask that it be prepared with the proper means by changing ones gloves that have handled breaded chicken.
Suzanne
Thank you for this! Chic Fil A is one of the few places my Celiac husband will eat when it comes to “fast food.” I love their commitment to quality and the fantastic service they provide!
carolyn truett
I love Chick Fil A because I know I can eat there safely. The gluten free bun is really good toasted. Sometimes I will just buy them in the drive through and freeze them until the next time I make burgers for dinner. Also good for peanut butter toast, or just toasted with butter and salt for a makeshift roll.
Maria
They dod not know what the carrot raisin salad was at the Wchita Falls TX location. Geez!
