Redd’s Ales are NOT gluten free. They are not ciders but apple flavored beer.

Thank you for posting that. I have actually talked to a representative from Redd’s that stressed to me that in NO WAY ARE THEIR PRO DUCTS GLUTEN-FREE!

Seriously? Who the fuck runs this site? Douche bags who post misinformation that will make Celiacs sick are the worst.

The beverage is a bit misleading for sure. I started feeling sick soon after drinking it. Sitting next to the hard cider at the store, with a large apple on it, I thought it was hard cider. It even tasted like hard cider. Wrong!!!
Not knowing beer, I did not realize that ale was beer. I assumed ale had to do with color. Live and learn!!! This site needs to retract their statement!!!

Redd’s and beverages like it are officially FMBs (flavored malt beverages). They are made from grain (usually barley) containing gluten and then, through various processes, stripped of color/flavor. The desired colors and flavors are then reintroduced for the individual products. Mike’s Hard products (made of grains containing gluten) are said to be filtered by a proprietary process which brings then below the 20ppm U.S. threshold of “gluten-free”. Check their web site. Ciders, of course, are made of apples or pears which do not contain gluten. All distilled beverages (whiskey, gin, vodka, etc.) are gluten-free, but be careful with flavored products as the flavorings (spiced rums) may then reintroduce gluten.
I found out 2 years ago that I am Celiac. A big disappointment to a beer lover working for a major U.S. brewing company.

Crap. I should’ve scrolled down and read the comments before drinking this. Bad form, glutenfreeguidehq. I won’t be referencing your site again.

I’m curious about the legal ramifications of this information…my wife tried redds based on the information given here and had a reaction (she doesn’t have ciliac but is gluten sensitive). I’m not nessecarily saying I’m going to press charges but im wondering how accountability would work in this case.

There is a Warning! page at the top. I have picked up items that have gluten free on the front, but include the warning on the back that they are manufactured in the same facility that processes all of the 10 top allergens. If you are removing anything from your diet due to medical reasons, it is best to contact the manufacture. I am sure the person that created this sight was just trying to be helpful, but was misinformed.
