Here is a complete listing of gluten free tequila brands that are safe to drink for anyone following a strict gluten free diet.
As mentioned in our alcohol guide, there are two types of tequila – 100% agave and mixto.
Since the agave plant is naturally gluten free, any tequila labeled as 100% agave is generally safe to drink.
Cheaper tequilas, known as mixto, are allowed to mix up to 49% of non-agave based alcohol into their formula without having alert the consumer.
That’s why it’s always better, and safe, to stick with 100% agave tequilas.
When it comes to the tequila’s age (blanco, añejo, or reposada), it will not affect whether or not if it’s gluten free. So as long as your tequila is 100% pure agave, the age with not determine if it’s gluten free or not. And just like rum, color will have zero affect as well.
