One of the most stressful parts or eating out, if not the most stressful, is trying to find a safe and delicious gluten free meal.
First, most restaurants don’t offer a gluten free menu (or worse, don’t even know what it is).
Second, if a restaurant does offer a gluten free menu, the staff is either- 1. uneducated (bringing you a bread basket even when you clearly tell them that you’re can’t eat gluten which includes bread and pastas, etc.) and 2. the menu is secret (sometimes the staff doesn’t even know that it exists.)
Third, some restaurants are a cross-contamination haven. It literally makes eating out deadly for some severely allergenic diners.
And lastly, some restaurants only offer a gluten free menu just to say they do. “Hey, welcome to my restaurant! I have a gluten free menu, but I have no idea what gluten is or what it’s in… Here’s a panini with a side of chicken Alfredo and a bottle of Budweiser !” #Pathetic

I noticed that you don’t have many or really any options in San Jose/Santa Cruz area, well I have a suggestion for you! I have been allergic (not Celiacs) for most of my life, and with a dairy and egg intolerance so baked goods are hard to come by, or at least ones that don’t resemble bricks.. I always bake my own marvelous creations, but when I want to have that special treat I go to Melindas Gluten Free in the Bay Area! Oh man she has figured it out! From doughnuts to bagels, croissants, bread and cakes, she has the best and biggest variety of optional GF, VEGAN, SOY FREE goodies!! I am telling you, go in or make a special order and she will blow you away!!!!

I seriously had no idea all these restaurants had gluten free options thank you so much! I recently went gluten free due to a slight sensitivity and for my IBS-C and I’m so glad to know I can have meals outside of the house and not just cook at home for the rest of my life!
